If you could choose any place in the world to live, where would it be?
My own little island in the middle of nowhere, with just me and my dog,
and my own private jet to see anyone and anything I wanted to at any
time. I think I'd give other people rights to come visit me, but I'd
totally have full rights to kick them off if I wanted to (survivor
fantasies, anyone?).
When you were little, what did you want to be when you grew up?
Miss America. I guess I could still probably be her if I wanted to, but
I've only got a couple of years left and I really don't think it's gonna
happen.
Your occupation now?
I work with computers, providing phone support to the Indiana University
campus. I'm also a student, studying to get my bachelors degree in
Retail Management with a minor in theatre (I've always wanted to go on
Broadway...I think I'm an exhibitionist ;-)
What are some of your interests and hobbies?
I read a lot. I'll read anything you hand me...I used to annoy my mom
because she would be reading a book, and I'd pick it up, read it, and
give it back to her a day and a half later and tell her how it ended. I
also love to swim. I've been doing it for as long as I can remember,
and I just feel like getting in a pool is like coming home. It probably
has something to do with returning to the womb, I'm sure...
What would you say are your character strengths?
I'm very organized (some would say anal retentive, but we'll ignore
them, just like the voices in my head. Or maybe that was them that said
that...). I'm also very driven. I tend to get bored when I'm not running
around like a crazy person with fourteen different things going on at
once. I also love to be around and work with people. I keep my friends
like they're family.
Weaknesses?
All I have to say is: Don't piss me off. I tend to react very badly to
such things.
Do you have any quirks you think are strange or amusing?
No, but I'm sure my friends would tell you differently.
Who is/was the most influential person/role model in your life?
I really don't have a role model. I like to look back at all that I've
been through (I fought bulimia, anorexia, and depression with sheer
willpower after I decided that I didn't like the effect the drugs had on
my personality, I moved out of my parents house last summer to put
myself completely on my own for the first time ever without their
support, worked my way up from a server to Assistant General Manager of
a major restaurant chain in about eight months, re-enrolled in college
and moved to a better job, all within the past two years) and remind
myself that I am stronger and happier now than I ever thought that I'd
be.
What are your achievements/accomplishments that you are the most proud of?
Mainly, everything that I just listed above. I've won college
scholarships, and contests, but for the most part I'm happy just to be
around.
Are you currently single, involved, or married?
That's a difficult question. I was with a man for almost two years, but
we're currently not together, but we're living together. So let's just
say that I'm single, but my heart is taken.
What qualities do you find the most attractive in other people?
Personality and strength of character. Also a sense of humor, because
I've learned above everything else that if you don't laugh at least once
a day, either there was something horribly wrong or you just wasted the
day.
What is one thing you would change about the world?
To be a true beauty queen, I want World Peace. Actually, I think
complete world peace is unobtainable, because human nature is just
flawed. Actually, I think if there should be more understanding and
acceptance of medical diseases that also have mental issues (like
bulimia, depression, schizophrenia, etc.).
What is your favorite food?
Really sharp white cheddar cheese, usually Cabot (from Cheddar,
England).
If you could meet anyone, dead or alive, who would you choose?
Helena Rubenstein. She was instrumental in creating the whole modern
cosmetics industry, and since I want to eventually run a cosmetics
company I think it would be amazing to meet her.
If you won the lottery tomorrow, what would you do with the money?
Umm...buy my
island? Seriously...I'd invest enough of it to where it was creating
enough interest for me to live off of comfortably, then take whatever
was left over and travel for a year, spending at least a month in each
place that I visited and really absorbing all of the culture.
Do you consider yourself a spiritual person?
No, but I would love to be more so. I'm Episcopalian, but I don't go to
church anymore. I loved the ceremony of the service, and the way I felt
closer to God. I miss it, but right now my schedule doesn't allow me
time to go to church.
Is there any particular historical era that you feel drawn to?
I always loved the Victorian era, until I read the play by Henrick Ibsen
called The Dolls House, at which point I really realized the degradation
and violation of women that went on. I have always loved the 40's,
because I think that I should have been a starlet in those days. I've
also always love the Historical Williamsburg era (right around the civil
war).
What are your favorite books and authors?
Harry Potter by far. I've always been drawn to children's literature,
in particular the newberry award winning novels, just because they're
much better written than most adult fiction today. I also read a lot of
Jeffery Archer, whose novels tend to be the same story told several
different ways but whose short stories are simply brilliant.
What are your favorite movies?
Moulin Rouge (people say I look like Nicole Kidman), What Dreams May
Come, The Princess Bride, Playing by Heart (which is amazing, if you
haven't watched it you're really missing out) and more recently The
Italian Job
What is your most prized possession?
My sheltie, Dane
What is your favorite color?
I hate this question. I really don't have a favorite color, but I think
if I had to chose it would be a tie between purple and black.
What are your favorite television shows?
Friends and Trading Spaces
What are some of your pet peeves?
Ignorant people who chose to be ignorant. Also, now that I work phone
support, people who don't listen, or tell you that they did something
when they didn't.
What are some of the issues that you are passionate about?
Prevention of diseases like eating disorders, depression, autism, and
knowledge about all mental disorders in general
Do you have any tattoos or piercings?
I have my belly button pierced. At some point I would love to get my
tongue pierced, and I've been contemplating getting a tattoo of some
celtic knotwork on the small of my back.
What is one thing you hope to accomplish before you die?
I want to be in love, get married, and have a child and lots of dogs.
What is something you've always wanted to do/try but haven't yet?
Jump out of an airplane.
Where do you see yourself ten years (what are your goals)?
Professionally, I want to have a masters degree in business, be
performing on Broadway in a starring role, and be on my way to Hollywood
to make my first movie. Personally, I would love to be married, but I'm
not going to go looking for someone, because it's been my experience
that they best ones come when you're not looking for them.
What is your favorite quote?
There are actually two that are tied.
1) "My mind has an endless capacity for useless information." -Playing
By Heart
2) "You mean you'll put down your rock, and I'll put down my sword and
we'll try and kill each other like civilized people?" -The Princess
Bride
