If you could choose any place in the world to live, where would it be?
Somewhere
in British Columbia. I hate the winter, so Winnipeg is a brutal place to be
When you were little, what did you want to be when you grew up?
A secretary.
I had a little office set up with a blue typewriter. I named the company Don
Clark Enterprises, and it was an architectural firm. I was the secretary Susan
Nightingale. I should have known then that I really wanted to be Don Clark,
running the show!
Your occupation now?
Human Resources Manager
What are some of your interests and hobbies?
Spending time with my family and
friends, reading, cycling, walking, the gym, watching movies
What would you say are your character strengths?
Honesty, passion, reliability,
loyalty, hard working, energetic, caring, a good sense of humor with the ability
to laugh at myself
Weaknesses?
Sometimes don't think before I speak, overreacting to things that
aren't worth overreacting to, moodiness, trying too hard to fit in
If you could change one thing about yourself, what would it be?
Be
completely at peace with myself
Do you have any quirks you think are strange or amusing?
I pace whenever I talk
on the phone. One time, I attached one of those step meters you get in the
cereal box, and clocked 3000 steps during a 2 hour conversation. I can't stand
talking on the phone if I can't walk around while I'm doing it. I LOVE to "have
a taste" of whatever it is my husband has ordered when we go out for a meal. I
always think that what he has is better, so I have to find out for myself.
There are way too many more to list!
Who is/was the most influential person/role model in your life?
My dad. My
parents divorced when I was around 8 years old, and I eventually went to live with
my dad when I was 13. I was heading down a really bad path by the time I moved
in with him, and although it took at least a year, I eventually turned my life
around, and I give my dad the credit for that. He had next to no experience at
parenting, but he did the best he good with what he had. He always told me "As
long as you tried your best, whatever the outcome is fine." He just had a way
of making me feel loved, even though there were times I thought I would ring his
neck (for giving me the silent treatment when we'd argue, or for having a crazy
curfew of 11;30 when I was 18!)
What are your achievements/accomplishments that you are the most proud of?
Being a mom .... By far, the hardest but BEST accomplishment in the world. Also,
going back to school at age 36 and obtaining my university degree in Human
Resource Management. It took a lot of guts for me to "start over" and go after
what I really wanted and achieving it with honors. Always being able to land on
my feet, no matter what curveballs get thrown my way. Life has never come easy,
but it is true what doesn't kill you makes you stronger.
Are you currently single, involved, or married?
Married . Hubby #2
What qualities do you find the most attractive in other people?
A great sense
of humor, honesty, forthrightness, people who accept me just the way I am, people
who are always growing and not allowing themselves to get in a rut, loyalty,
commitment
What is one thing you would change about the world?
No murders allowed - no
matter what - whether it be because of war, domestic strife, or just a sick puppy
who gets off on that sh-t! (sorry, but that stuff makes my blood boil!)
What is your favorite food?
It's a toss up between tortilla chips and salsa (it's
actually the salsa I love, I just use the chips for somewhere to put the salsa!),
and pizza
If you could meet anyone, dead or alive, who would you choose?
Truly can't
answer that one.
If you won the lottery tomorrow, what would you do with the money?
Travel, open my own business (something fun where I'd be
interacting with cool people)
Do you consider yourself a spiritual person?
Not as much as I would like to be.
This is something I'm striving for.
Is there any particular historical era that you feel drawn to?
Probably the
50's
What are your favorite books and authors?
Murder mysteries, true stories,
autobiographies. Some of my favorite authors are: Ann Rule, Sue Grafton, Tami
Hoag, Sandra Brown, to name a few.
What are your favorite movies?
There are so many . . . Almost Famous, Runaway
Bride, Pretty Woman, The Breakfast Club, Love Actually ... those are just a few that
stand out.
What is your most prized possession?
Right now, I guess my laptop. Sound
pretty "unsentimental", but it is my main source of communicating with the outside
world when I can't be with them face to face, so I think it's pretty important.
What is your favorite color?
Blue
What are your favorite television shows?
American and Canadian Idol, Dr. Phil,
Dawson's Creek, One Tree Hill, Seinfeld, W
What are some of your pet peeves?
Snobby people or people who won't even try to
make the effort, people who don't follow through on their promises/commitments,
rude people, people who whine all the time, people who play games
What are some of the issues that you are passionate about?
That people be
treated fairly, and ensuring consistency in the way they are treated (at work
anyway), living up to your commitments (hmmm.... Seems to be a recurring theme
throughout this interview, doesn't it?) Anything to do with my son!
Do you have any tattoos or piercings?
I just recently turned 40, and decided it
was time for some fun. So, I now have a flower (blue daisy) tattoo on my left
ankle, and a belly button piercing. It's funny - it seemed to be such a big deal
when I had each of these things done a few months ago, now I don't even notice
they are there . . . they're just part of who I am.
What is one thing you hope to accomplish before you die?
What is one thing you hope to accomplish before you die? To be at complete peace
with myself, to not second guess my actions or words, to find joy in the simple
things without letting things I can't control overwhelm me, to wake up every day
and always see the good in the day, no matter what the weather or circumstance.
To leave the world knowing that I made the world a better place just by being in
it.
What is something you've always wanted to do/try but haven't yet?
Traveling
more. I'd like to see Italy, Paris, some of the southern states with the
beautiful large houses with the porch and the porch swing, see New Orleans.
Where do you see yourself ten years (what are your goals)?
That's one I'm
working on. Struggling with that one!
What is your favorite quote?
"People come into our lives for a reason, a
season and a lifetime." That one really rings true for me and signifies how
people can mean something to us even for a short period of time.
