Self-Description: Friends have asked me, "What's it all about?" They
wonder why I reference my red hair in connection with a strong sense of justice
that gets me fired up and ready to take action. Through a lifetime of trial and
error, I have moulded this trait in myself, sometimes called the "redheaded
temper", into a force for positive change.
Let's face it, redheads are wild! Just mention you're dating a redhead and
watch your friends' eyebrows for skyward motion; you're instantly brave,
dangerous and lucky by virtue of your close association with a fiery-haired
woman.
Adult "true" redheads were once 7-year-old redheads, who were taunted by at
least one unenlightened soul for their otherworldly "coppertops". Secretly, I
always treasured my unusual coloring, but I began outwardly loving being a
redhead when the fashion world began charging big money for the privilege of
being mistaken for my birthright, a natural redhead. Instead of saying, "better
dead than red," women were dying to be red.
So when my son was born redheaded, I grinned with pride. We always will be
rooted in the shared experience of our red hair. His personality added to his
auburn disposition, he's a natural leader, confident in love. And he is
thrilled that "we match!" He is a match for me temper for temper, too.
Perhaps that's why some of our best friends are redheads... who know what it's
all about.
