Self-Description: Growing up, I always felt a little different because I was a redhead.
For some strange reason, this gene decided to be recessive until I came into
the world. I am currently the only living redhead in my family that I know of.
In school, I was asked the typical redhead questions that no one should talk
about in mixed company. One strange experience was when my 4th grade teacher
would kid around and tell me that he thought my hair came out of a bottle...I
didn't really understand it all at the time.
My first serious boyfriend I figured out down the line was one of those "only
hot for redheaded girls."
Eventually, I decided to embrace being a redhead. I got used to the fact that
being a redhead was my defining charateristic. When people looked in a crowd
for me, they would look for my hair, not ever what I was wearing or something
else to make me stand out. When I am described to people they always say "tell
your redhead friend I said hi" or something like that because they didn't
remember my name.
Now I am an adult who works in NYC as a teacher. Last year, the only redhead
student in the school decided to come to me for advice. I think partly because
I was a fellow redhead. It gave her comfort. Isn't that interesting...
Interests: I enjoy playing the clarinet and singing in choirs. I am hoping to
get into come community theater to keep me active. I love to be on the go. I
will sign up for various projects just to keep busy.
I like most kinds of music and I am trying to get into reading more. I loved
it as a child...it's sad that some of us lose that love for books over time.
