Self-Description: I am a middle-aged (chronologically) but very young (at heart) family
doctor, married to a dentist. I live on a 23-acre spread we refer to as the
"funny farm", with 7 dogs (6 are German Shepherds, 1 is a "dumped on the road"
dog), 2 barn-kitties, 3 house-cats, 2 aging but also young-at-heart Arabian
horses, and 15 milk-goats. Like many doctors, I am Obsessive-Compulsive
Disordered to the maax, and have very little tolerance for those who do less
than their 100% best at anything. I will, however, go to the last degree to help
anyone I can. I am a Christian (Presbyterian by label) and conservative
(Libertarian, yet), who doesn't smoke but who likes the occasional "toddy" (one
and I giggle, two and I sleep).
Children: None.
Interests: Aside from my full-time medical practice, I raise milk-goats (mostly
Saanens and Nubians) and make goat-milk cheese. (See the Web-site, drcheese.net)
I like to ride my horses, Karen and Rowdy, though there is seldon enough time. I
like to listen to classical or soft jazz music and read a good book (again,
never enough time). Back in my previous life BMS (before medical school) I was
pretty good at the piano and art easel, and occasionally have a flash-back and
go artsy. I also get an infrequent attack of domesticity and sew or cook a
semi-gourmet meal. But I'd much rather spend free time outside playing in the
dirt than cleaning it up inside. I like to play with the dogs (the 3 puppies are
14 weeks old and brilliant, of course), or sit still with a purring cat on my
lap til we both go to sleep.
More: If I won the Lotto I would have to restrict my practice to half-days so I
could spend more time playing out of doors with my 'critters". Few things make
me angrier than people who mistreat children or animals; pick on someone your
own size if you must, but there is a special place in Hell for those who oppress
the helpless and trusting. I don't like being lied to, and would rather hear the
truth, however tough, than be patronized. I believe God has created us each for
a purpose (aside from that of loving Him) and we will be happiest when we
understand and practice it; in the meantime, try to be content blooming where
you're planted.
