Self-Description: I'm a 5'11 redhead who is as unique and interesting as my hair.
Although I'm only 17, I've already experienced a very eventful and productive
life. As a young child I was blessed enough to witness the last Grateful Dead
concert before Jerry Garcia's death. When I was 8 years old I lived and
attended school(all spanish speaking and I didn't speak a word of the
language)in Quito, Ecuador. When I was 9 I toured other parts of South America,
including Brazil and Peru. I was also fortunate to visit Macchu Picchu and see
the Incan ruins.
At 15, I flew alone to Europe to visit relatives. I traveled through parts of
Germany, Austria and Italy. I stayed in an 18th century villa in the heart of
Tuscany, explored the streets of Rome, saw the birth place of Mozart,
gallavanted through Munich, and witnessed the horrendous remains of Dachau (the
first Nazi concentration camp).
This past summer, my family and I embarked on a two month and 11,000 mile road
trip in our minivan. Among the states we visited; Washington, Montana,
California (San Francisco, L.A., Hollywood, Berkeley), Wyoming (including
Yellowstone), Utah,Arizona, New Mexico, Texas, Oklahoma, Missouri, Mississippi,
Louisiana (New Orleans),and Arkansas. We also followed the band Wide Spread
Panic where my mom sold art and custom made shirts and my dad barbequed (in 100
gallon self made bbq; he calls his operation Carnivore Corner).
I'm extremely fond of music and have seen many concerts in my life. These
include; The Grateful Dead, Phish, Bob Dylan, Paul Simon, Dave Matthews, Tom
Petty, Particle, Derek Trucks Band, Black Crows, Wide Spread Panic, and Fiona
Apple.
Art is another subject to which I have great reverence. My sophomore year in
high school, I drew an editorial cartoon that expressed concerns over the
minute men on the Arizona border. The cartoon was misinterpreted by some (they
thought I was being racist toward Hispanics) and it received national media
attention. It was all over the radio, news and newspaper in Oregon and was one
of the issues on the Lars Larson show. Numerous groups flooded my high school
with letters (including unfortunately the KKK, the national minute men, mothers
of the minute men, and various hispanic groups.)Through the whole incident I
had to attend countless meetings and conferences to defend my cartoon and
reaffirm that it was not directed toward Hispanics- I was actually showing my
concern for their safety when untrained and possibly armed civilians were
patrolling the border. Needless to say, the whole thing blew out of proportion
but in the end, I felt like I became a stronger individual through it all.
So that's pretty much the condensed version of my life. There's much more to
add ( like Rainbow Gatherings, hippie parents, ect.) but I've probably already
bored you.
Interests: Art, I especially love drawing and painting whimsical portraits and
caricatures.
Reading, usually histories, biographies, fiction, and historical fiction.
Writing, mostly creative.
Traveling, I really want to go back to Europe. Russia and Romania most notably.
More: I come from a nuclear family, no step or half siblings or parents.
My dad (the redhead)is a welder, my mom is an alternative school teacher.
My brother's name is Taylor. He is 13 but is already 6'1. Not a redhead though,
just dark brown.
