Self-Description: I work for the taxpayers of the great State of Oregon trying to help as
many people as the law allows. Maybe if we ever get decent health policy decisions made and
implemented, I can do more...
I'm usually quite adventurous when it comes to food, though I really can't abide figs or
marshmallows. With kids living in Louisiana, I've learned to love all facets of southern cooking,
especially Cajun and barbeque, which I discovered when I lived in North Carolina. I'm always open to
swapping recipes.
My daughter is a chef but, unfortunately, lost her job in the French Quarter of New Orleans after
the hurricanes last year. She could have gone back to the old job but there's no place for her to
live that she can afford. The rents have gone up so much due to limited supply and great demand. So,
she moved back to Oregon last summer and is now happily working in Portland.
My son is a mechanic in Baton Rouge and just married a lovely girl whom I first met at Mardi Gras in
'01. She comes from a nice Southern family. Her daddy was the only one of the parents to cry at
their wedding. Her mama and I were just glad the whole thing was done.
Live theatre is always a treat for me. I used to review local productions for the weekly paper here.
I gave it up because the paper was paying me such a paltry sum that I couldn't afford to buy a
second season ticket so I could take a date.
I love traveling the northwest (even with all the rain) and the good ol' American South.
My significant other and I went to BC last summer and Maui in the fall. We're trying to decide if we
want to do another big trip or get new windows and floors for our drafty old house.
Children: Two human children - a grown son who recently got married and a grown daughter who didn't. My son is currently living in Louisiana. My daughter recently moved back to the great Northwest and is working in downtown Portland. Until last July, I had a little black & tan, spotted wiener dog and a basement cat. The puppy went to the Rainbow Bridge so the cat finally came out of the basement. We all still miss our little puppy, though.
Interests: Cooking, yard work (though I really do hate it, I have to do it to keep the
neighbors from lynching me), home improvements (also loathed), good coffee and microbrews (Rogue
Chocolate Stout is a particular favorite).
Right now, I'm an inactive member of the city fire department. As I get older, I find I'm disliking
hauling my behind out of bed at 2 in the morning because some bonehead decided to drive drunk and
now we have to go scrape his or her sorry @ss off the highway.
Oh, and trips to the local wineries to purchase their wares. My current favorite is Airlie Winery's
Marechal Foch. We just purchased a few bottles of their 2002 & 2003 vintages. Mighty fine with
homemade pasta!!
