I LOVE being a redhead. Now that I'm an adult and realize how identical most people are, I welcome anything that will help me to be different and stand out. We're in the minority of the best! We're so uncommon that it makes us fairly unique, and I love the attention it gets me. Think about it- no matter how much my brunette best friend may mess with her hair to make it beautiful so people will notice it, it's almost impossible to beat a redhead!

Okay, I must confess...I ALWAYS loved the attention my red hair brought. Everytime I was at a birthday party or show where a child was to be chosen for something, I was sure to be selected. The fact that I was a total ham didn't hurt either, I guess. I wasn't teased too badly, but for some reason it drove me bonkers when people called me Little Orphan Annie - so of course everyone did.

I always hear "That's the color I want my hair." Sorry, this color doesn't come in a bottle. WHO WOULDN'T LOVE THAT?

I think my most favorite comment to date has been "Many women spend thousands of dollars to keep their hair your color." It's flattering to know that someone else thinks that you are unique because you are natural and so many women try to be like you. (at least in hair color) Other comments of course have related to how my eyes and hair go together. It makes you feel good inside to get a good compliment.

[Comments heard about hair color]: "Is your hair color real?" I find this irritating because it should be obvious it isn't a dye job. There are too many variables as to shades (I have 3 to 4 different shades of red in my hair, for crying out loud!) for it to be dyed. What is nice, though is when a hairdresser makes nice comments. It's a nice little boost if you're having a bad day.

My hair is the stuff of legend in my town. Its auburn color was always natural, however, it turned frizzy, nappy, and orange after an incident involving chlorine, a bad perm, and a product called sun-in. I think I've always been different, and I've always known it, but I was never really sure what set me apart. I thought for a while that it had to do with being taller than the other girls and growing boobs first, but after a while, I think I just fell in with a group of other social misfits. Suprisingly, most of us turned out better than the preppy kids. A simple answer--no, I didn't like it, but growing up is tough no matter how you slice it!
