I think I once read that only 4% of the world's population are natural redheads and I guess I look at that as a sign that I have this uniqueness that only a minority of the world shares. Of course, I didn't always look at it like that - I hated it when I was a child, but as I grew up I not only loved having that 'originality' but I liked the strange 'power & mysteriousness' it seemed to hold - esp on those who are obsessed with redheads.

I just love it when people say they wish they had red hair, or that I would fit well in their family cause redheads run in the family or anything like that. I guess I especially like it when people stare when I am out with my family cause my mother, sister, and brother all have red hair too. I love it and I would not change it for the world. I get all kinds of compliments on my hair and I kind of like being in the minority of hair colors. I don't know what it is about redheads. I think we have the most interesting hair color because so many other shades can enter in and make each shade of red so unique. I also think there has always been some aura about redheads. I think there is just something about us that fascinates people.

Well, the first interesting thing that comes to mind is when I was a barmaid in a Southwestern Kansas town. A lady and her husband stopped in and spent some time at the bar having drinks, enjoying the Old West, headed for Las Vegas. They came in off and on all week. On their last night in town before heading further west, the lady insisted on rubbing/touching my hair for luck. I laughed it off and thought nothing of it, letting her do what she thought might help her out. About a month or so later they passed back thru and she gave me $20 -said she had won $50 on her first try and that it was because of my luck.

Don't drool! Don't inform us that your last two girlfriends were both red-heads (even if I know them both, until you pointed it out it hadn't occured to me and I thought it was a coincidence sub-conciously.... now I think you're creepy....). Don't touch the hair unless I know you. Well. i.e If I wouldn't stay over at your place and feel comfortable then you shouldn't be touching me. I wouldn't want you touching me anywhere else, and my hair is no exception. When you would feel comfortable lying naked with me and telling me your deepest darkest secrets, then you can play with the hair (please do, I like it).

And I know I have fair skin... I've been teased about it FOREVER, nothing you can say about it will make you stand out from the crowd. And don't comment on how I must sunburn easily. I live under a hole in the ozone layer, what do you think?

I am generally happy with having red hair but it's hard to maintain an identity when people just refer to you as the "red head". Also I hate people constantly approaching me and asking me if it's my natural hair color. I know it's meant as a compliment but it gets nerve racking when I have people asking me that everyday. Otherwise, I like the attention I get and the compliments I recieve on the account of my hair. It truely makes me unique.
