[On growing up with red hair]: It was a pain. "Reds" "Punkin head" and "Carrots" were among the few of the names I had to deal with, as I'm sure everyone else has as well. It took until junior/senior high before I earned my actual name back. But, once that time came, I started to enjoy being an individual. Even though most people knew me as "that redhead girl" in school, it was nice to be different.

I appreciate having red hair a lot more now... and I've come to embrace the stigma that comes with it. As strange as it seems, I actually feel a lot better about myself now because of my hair... when you learn that you're part of one of the rarest groups of humans on the planet, it improves your self-worth a bit.

I enjoyed being a little different because I also had my brother who was a redhead. That made things more bearable. I was definitely teased a lot for my hair, but also for my glasses, braces, my 'nerdiness', and because I was overweight. The list doesn't end and if it does, people will still find something to nag you about.

When I was growing up I was proud of my hair because I inherited it from my Grandpa. There are a lot of redheads in our family and I was homeschooled so there weren't that many people that made fun of me. I did however get made fun of for having curly hair. My grandma nicknamed me curly sue. I hate that nickname.
I like being called red just don't call me carrot top unless you want to get kicked in the shins.

I do not believe all redheads are hotheads. My mom is a natural redhead and is the most passive person I know. I, however, have my father's Scotch/Norse temper to go with my mother's hair. I have met a greater number of passionate redheads, but then again, redheads are the only people I have sought out and befriended in any number. (through the Realm).

Every time I met someone when I was little they complimented my long red hair. Occasionally I was mistaken for an adopted child among a family of brunettes. I don't remember being teased so much, but sometimes got a "you're head's on fire!" Mostly, people really liked it, and were even a little disappointed when I cut it all off. I grew up feeling really special over something I couldn't control, but nonetheless, it probably contributed to my fiercly independent personality.
