Since I had hated my hair growing up and had to deal with so much teasing,
when I got pregnant with my son, I actually hoped he would not have red hair.
The day he was born and I heard a little nursing student actually almost yell
"It's a redhead" my heart soared, all this time I had really been hoping for
a redhead, then my grandson was born, I was in the delivery room, there was
this beautiful little boy screaming his lungs out. I didn't realize it at
first, because I was so into helping my daughter-inlaw, but, he had red hair,
just like me and his Daddy!!! The nurses in that maternity ward took several
pictures of the three of us and on a bulletin board beside the nursery there
was a section dedicated to Us....they called it "3 generations of Reds". I
was so proud.

I got teased a lot as a child. I still do somewhat... I think there is some idea that
maybe we're lucky to have red hair so we should be teased because it is
only fair to those who were not blessed to be born with it. I don't agree
with such nonsense. I think having red hair has made me stronger because
I've had to put up with sometimes disgusting comments on reasons my hair
is red... (Elementary school children are vicious) Added to that are the
assumptions that I have a temper or whatever else, just because I'm red
haired. I'm glad I have red hair. I think I am lucky now. I sure didn't
then though. I thought I was singled out in some cruel plan to make me
miserable.

I would say the most interesting thing that's happened on account of my
hair was that I had two girlfriends that got upset because both of their husbands asked them to
try their hair red for awhile... and they automatically assumed it was because they were seeing
me in a different light..... ahem..... if you get my drift.... lol...
They never stopped to think that maybe they really liked the hair color, instead of focusing on
that they were wanting me instead.... people and assuming..... ugh..... lol...

My mother is a redhead. I always found her hair fascinating. It's
curly, too, so it was completely different from mine. I look exactly like
my father. Same face, brown hair, brown eyes. The family joke is that he
had me all by himself. Around the age of 17, I just started wanting to look
more like my mom. I wanted to get in touch with that. So, I started dyeing
my hair red. It's been that way for the last 10 years. Most people assume
it's natural. The funniest reaction I've had was a guy who refused to
believe I was naturally brunette. He was incredibly adamant that I must be
a natural redhead. Of course, this may have just been his attempt to get me
to drop my pants.

I HATED my hair as a child. I think that boys are treated a lot differently from girls
if they are redheads (as we are treated differently as adults). Male
redheads are always viewed as more 'gawky' or 'geeky' while women are
'sultry'. :) Really, I had to grow into my hair so to speak.
Of course, it helped to have 2 redhead grandmothers! I love it now! I like being a part of about 4% of the populace. Even
though I am pretty much an introvert by nature, I still like standing out in
small ways. It helped me find my wife in fact (she is a self-acknowledged
redophile). And, as my wife says, it is easy to spot me in a crowd, look
for the 6'3" redhead (figure it can only help when our child comes, will
allow him or her to find me in a crowd!)

"Oh my god! you have such red hair!"....
"Aww, thanks!!!! did you figure that out all by yourself?".....
I just hate when people approach me about my hair... it's such a superficial
thing... But let's back step... if I didn't know that my hair was awesome and
red WHY WOULD I KEEP IT LIKE THAT!!! okay moving on....if you want to talk to
me... please don't waste your time making comments about anything external...
what you need to know to be is under the hair.... TRUST ME.
I think this goes for everyone! get inside... instead of talking about pettie
outsides! One day people will learn to use the brains above their belts...
I'M SURE OF IT!!!!
